Overview

We are recruiting a fixed-term role, up to 2 years, for someone with experience of working in or regulating energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries. You will regulate to protect people and the environment from emissions and help mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change. The role may require some travel and the incumbent should be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.
Responsibilities
* provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training
* develop strategy for our sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes
* commission and manage external research projects where needed
* work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players
* respond to incidents as part of the role and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident
The Energy & COMAH team is part of the Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation of the Environment & Business (E&B) Directorate. Our technical experts lead on the definition of standards for our sectors and provide strategic direction, guidance and training to deliver duties and promote environmental best practice.
Experience/skills Required
* ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage diversity considerations in work
* relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, with experience of the work area for the role, including knowledge of control measures for emissions to air where relevant
* ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia
* ability to work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals
Competences
* Legislative Knowledge — Applies knowledge of statutory environmental and technical requirements to protect the Environment Agency and the environment. Senior advisor for energy sectors to advise on regulatory requirements for combustion plants of varying sizes and purposes.
* Works in Teams — Works co-operatively as part of a team to achieve common goals in a portfolio of work.
* Builds and Sustains Relationships — Develops and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government officials, trade associations and EA operational teams.
