Responsibilities

* Assist and work under the direction of Registered Nurses
* Assist in the administration and clerical duties of the unit
* Work flexibly when required
* Work independently with regard to routine delegated tasks, following established good practice and referring non-routine tasks appropriately. Supervised and evaluated on a routine basis. Undertake specifically delegated initial patient interviews and functional screening to assess for, measure, and teach safe use of aids and appliances such as walking aids.
* Follow treatment plans as prescribed by nurses to meet treatment goals
* Encourage individuals to maintain optimum independence in accordance with the agreed activity plan by carrying out therapeutic activity utilizing empathy, sensitivity and good interpersonal skills
* Communicate with patients and/or carers to provide reassurance and promote understanding
* Assist in information collection from patients/relatives as requested by trained staff
* Prioritize tasks allocated and adjust as necessary
* Ensure that documentation is completed in accordance with Trust and departmental requirements
* Be responsible for some degree of housekeeping and stock control on the Unit
* Be competent in phlebotomy and simple dressings
* Attend any in-service training programmes as appropriate
* Participate in the individual appraisal and performance review programme and actively participate in supervision
* Maintain own continuing professional development (CPD) by keeping up to date with developments and incorporating them into work
* Respect the individuality, values, cultural and religious diversity of patients
* Exercise good time management, punctuality and consistent and reliable attendance
* Be aware of Health and Safety aspects of your work and implement any policies required to improve the safety of your work area, including prompt recording and reporting of accidents and ensuring equipment use is safe
* Maintain accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date documentation, in line with legal and departmental requirements
* Comply with organisational and departmental policies and procedures
* Undertake departmental administrative duties as required
* Undertake any other duties considered appropriate by the relevant registered nurse/Team Leader
* Report back to Nursing and Therapy staff on all treatment activities, verbally or in writing as requested
* Work as a member of the team and communicate relevant information to team members
* Communicate effectively in a variety of ways with patients/carers to gain cooperation and understanding of treatment programmes
* Maintain good working relationships
* Establish therapeutic relationships using negotiating and reasoning skills to complete treatment activities
* Identify deficits in resources required to carry out the job and bring to the attention of the Team Leader
* Monitor materials and equipment, bring defects to the attention of the Team Leader
* Adhere to financial policies
* Attend regular meetings (e.g., staff meetings, support and development groups)
* Participate in in-service training
* Comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, fulfil a proactive role towards risk management, report all incidents, near misses, hazards, and uphold a statutory duty of care for personal safety and that of others
* Assist JHRU staff in induction and training of new staff
* Accept that duties and responsibilities may be modified in line with changing service demands and development requirements of the postholder


Qualifications

* Experience in a UK healthcare/NHS role
* Level 2 Health & Social Care NVQ Level 2 or NHS accredited Care Certificate
* Evidence of Care Certificate or NVQ Level 2 required to secure Band 3 role
* Enhanced DBS with Adults' Barred List checks (obtained during pre-employment checks)


Working Hours

37.5 hours per week across Monday to Friday. Shift patterns to be agreed on appointment.
