Care Support Worker - Orthopaedic Outpatients

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 2 Care Support Worker to join our friendly team within Fracture/Orthopaedic Outpatients, working across both Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital sites.

There are two positions available (one 20‑hour post and one 16‑hour post).

This role will require cross‑site working where needed to meet service demands, including working at Bassetlaw Orthopaedic Outpatients.

Working hours are generally 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, with some half days; however, clinics can be very busy and may occasionally run late, so flexibility is essential. Currently, the service operates Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend working if additional clinics are required. We do not work on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

Main duties of the job

* Chaperone doctors and nurses in clinic.
* Support patients throughout their clinic appointments.
* Assist with flow of patients through clinic, escorting patients into rooms, monitoring patient attendance using computer systems.
* Assist with the communication of appointments as directed by doctors and nurses, using computer systems.
* Undertake personal duties as required, assisting with toileting or hygiene needs.
* Prepare the environment for clinical procedures, including setting up of procedural trolley, assembling equipment following the procedural document and under supervision of a registrant.
* Escort patients around the hospital as required.
* Assist patients to meet their spiritual and cultural needs.
* Respect patients' rights and choices as an individual.
* Undertake stock ordering and assist in the rotation of stock.
* Undertake daily safety checks including fire safety, emergency equipment etc. and report any issues to the nurse in charge.
* Actively partake in weekly audits.
* Maintain a safe, tidy and clean environment for staff, patients and relatives.
* Keep up to date with relevant training and assist and support new or junior members of staff new to the unit.

Person Specification


Qualifications & Training

* Knowledge of personal care and related procedures.
* Basic Maths and literacy.
* Vocational qualification at level 2 or equivalent relevant experience.
* GCSE Grade C in Maths and English or equivalent.


Knowledge and Experience

* Experience working with people using customer care skills.
* Knowledge and understanding of current healthcare issues.
* Experience of working in a healthcare setting and/or providing personal care.


Personal Attributes & Skills

* Demonstrate good communication skills, work within the multidisciplinary team.
* Well‑motivated, genuine desire to care for people.
* Good standard of written skills.
* Must be able to work within a team; support and assist in the safe and effective delivery of personal care.
* Demonstrate enthusiasm, motivation, accept and support changes within the role/service.
* Ability to record and report relevant information regarding patient needs.
