At SMH Group, we give you the confidence to grow and shape your future. Whether you’re progressing through your qualifications or ready to step into more responsibility, you’ll find the support, flexibility, and opportunity to build a career that works for you.
We offer a full range of financial services across 10 offices in Yorkshire and Derbyshire, with more than 150 team members working together to support thousands of clients. What brings us together is a shared commitment to doing the right thing. We’re client centric, we act as one firm, and we care about our work, about each other, and about making a difference in our communities.
We’re looking for an experienced Accounts Senior to join our team at our Sheffield office. If you’re ready to take your next step with a forward-thinking firm where people matter, we’d love to hear from you.
What you’ll be doing
This is a hands-on role where you’ll manage your own portfolio of clients and support our junior team. You’ll deliver accurate, timely accounts and tax services while building trusted relationships with business owners and directors.
You’ll be involved in:
* Managing bookkeeping and preparing year-end accounts
* Preparing personal tax returns, partnership accounts, and VAT submissions
* Producing management accounts and attending client meetings
* Supporting and training junior staff members
* Taking on additional responsibilities based on your interests and experience
Knowledge of payroll, company secretarial duties, or forecasts is a bonus, but not essential.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who brings confidence, clarity, and care to their work. You’ll have:
* At least 4 years’ experience in accountancy practice
* Experience using Sage 50, Xero, and QuickBooks
* Ideally, some knowledge of IRIS or Sage Business Cloud
* Strong communication skills and attention to detail
* The ability to work independently and prioritise effectively
* Study towards ACA or ACCA (or already qualified)
What you’ll get in return
We know there’s more to work than just the job title. That’s why we offer a people-first package with real benefits:
* Competitive salary up to £33,000
* Full study support for ACA or ACCA
* 25 days holiday, plus bank holidays, with the option to buy more
* Flexible working around core hours (10:30am to 4:00pm)
* Pension scheme and Level 1 health cash plan
* Life assurance (4x salary) and eye test cover
* Regular social events, charity fundraising and volunteering days
* Staff discounts on wills, LPAs and mortgage advice
* Time off for professional development and exam support
* Opportunities to move across departments, offices, or specialisms as you grow
We work hard to create a place where people feel supported, respected and part of something bigger. Whether you’re getting involved in local fundraising, helping a colleague pass their exams, or shaping a better way to work with clients, your contribution matters.
