Overview
Tetra Tech’s Water Consultancy is seeking an Assistant Project Engineer to support the delivery of clean water and wastewater capital projects across AMP8 and AMP9 programmes. You will work alongside project engineers and multidisciplinary teams to assist with design, survey data review, technical reporting, hydraulic analysis and scheme delivery. Typical activities include preparing drawings and specifications, analysing flow, pressure and quality data, supporting site activities and ensuring work meets regulatory and client standards for multi-site programmes with multi-million pound packages.
Responsibilities
* Prepare drawings and specifications and assist with project design and scheme delivery.
* Analyse flow, pressure and quality data; support hydraulic analysis and modelling as required.
* Assist with survey data review, technical reporting, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and client standards across multi-site programmes.
* Support site activities and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to maintain project timelines and quality.
* Contribute to improving delivery through robust data analysis and quality assurance.
Your Impact In This Position
* Provide immediate technical support to keep projects on time and to quality standards.
* Gain practical experience in hydraulic modelling, design documentation and site engagement in the short term.
* Take responsibility for defined workstreams in the medium term and support innovation in resilience and sustainability.
* Progress to Project Engineer and specialist technical roles within long-running AMP frameworks in the longer term.
Core Capabilities
* Hydraulic knowledge — Demonstrable understanding of network hydraulics, pressure management and water quality principles.
* Technical drafting & documentation — Competent in producing schematics, drawings, specifications and concise technical reports.
* Data analysis & modelling aptitude — Able to process and interpret flow, pressure and time-series data; experience with InfoWorks, SynerGEE or similar is advantageous.
* Fieldwork & QA competence — Comfortable supporting site surveys, inspections and quality assurance of deliverables.
* Communication & teamwork — Clear oral and written communicator who collaborates with clients and multidisciplinary teams to meet project objectives.
Skills, Qualifications And Experience
Expected: a degree in a relevant technical subject. Desirable: experience with hydraulic modelling tools, GIS (MapInfo, ArcGIS, QGIS), Power BI and membership or working towards membership of a professional institution.
Work patterns & locations
Hybrid role with a regional base; typical office attendance 2–3 days per week and regular site visits as required across the North West and wider UK. Flexible working arrangements considered.
