The Role

We are currently recruiting for a Specialist Mentor to join a leading SEMH/ASC provision in Leyland. This school supports pupils who have struggled in mainstream settings due to Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs or Autistic Spectrum Conditions.
This isn't just "classroom support." You will be a mentor, a role model, and a steadying presence for students who often face significant daily challenges. Your focus will be on breaking down barriers to learning through emotional support and tailored behavioral interventions.
Key Responsibilities
1:1 Mentorship: Deliver bespoke interventions to help students manage anxiety and develop social communication skills.
De-escalation & Regulation: Use positive handling and de-escalation strategies (e.g., Team-Teach) to maintain a safe, calm learning environment.
Nurture-Based Support: Work within a nurture framework to help students re-engage with the curriculum at their own pace.
Collaboration: Work alongside the SENCo, Educational Psychologists, and parents to track emotional and academic progress.
Requirements
Experience: Previous experience working with SEMH, ASC, or ADHD (this could be in a school, PRU, youth work, or residential setting).
Character: A high level of emotional intelligence, patience, and a "thick skin.
Compliance: You must hold an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to process a new one).
Commitment: As these pupils require consistency, we are looking for someone who wants to transition into a permanent role with the school.
