Plant Breeding Manager – Pharmaceutical Applications

Walker Cole International is supporting a client in the pharmaceutical sector seeking a Plant Breeding Manager to lead and develop its specialist breeding program. This role offers a unique opportunity to innovate at the intersection of plant science and pharmaceutical development, focusing on enhancing medicinal plant varieties.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and implement plant breeding strategies targeting traits such as alkaloid content, yield, and disease resistance.
* Develop and maintain plant clones, including ongoing clone strategy, viability assessments, and evaluations.
* Coordinate field and greenhouse trials to assess breeding line performance.
* Apply classical and molecular breeding techniques, including marker-assisted selection and tissue culture.
* Ensure compliance with pharmaceutical quality standards and regulatory requirements.
* Collaborate with R&D and regulatory teams.
* Communicate results and updates to stakeholders and external bodies.
About You:
* MSc or PhD in Plant Breeding, Genetics, Agronomy, or related field.
* 5+ years of plant breeding experience, including leadership roles.
* Knowledge of medicinal plants and phytochemistry.
* Familiarity with GMP, GACP, and international regulations.
* Skills in data analysis, project management, and collaboration.
* Experience with medicinal crops and the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
* Understanding of EMA, FDA, or WHO frameworks for botanical ingredients.
