Description

Priory Hospital Stockton Hall are looking to recruit a highly motivated occupational therapist to join our team of forensic occupational therapists and therapy assistants. The post holder will work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team providing specialist assessments and therapeutic interventions to detained males within our mental illness service line or to detained female patients within our 12‑bedded medium secure ward.

We currently have two vacancies available – one position is 30 hours per week on the male mental illness ward, and the other is a full‑time role of 37.5 hours per week within the female service.

Working in a medium secure setting you will demonstrate a good knowledge of occupational therapy input into risk assessment and risk management and will be an integral member of the clinical team. Standardised clinical tools based on the Model of Human Occupation will be utilised where appropriate, using specialist knowledge.

You will work with a variety of conditions which are often complex and challenging, and will supervise junior members of the occupational therapy team, as well as contribute to service developments where appropriate. You will act as a positive role model promoting the value of occupation and upholding the values of the Priory Group. Our commitment to clinical and management supervision and continuing professional development will support you in this specialist role.

What you’ll be doing

You will play a key part in their recovery, assisting qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed or delegated to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment of patients.

1. Manage and co‑ordinate the implementation of individual treatment plans for occupational therapy services, ensuring treatments, activities and interventions are delivered through effective application and communication.
2. Receive and respond promptly to referrals, undertaking patient assessments to identify and prioritise patient needs before planning and delivering the appropriate and relevant interventions either on an individual or group basis. Maintain accurate and timely records detailing each patient’s rehabilitation/progress.
3. Ensure the effective and efficient management of more junior staff.
4. Maintain and develop close working relationships with professional and clinical colleagues within the multi‑disciplinary team, ensuring clinical practice is in line with Priory policies and procedures and complies with statutory regulations and quality standards.
5. Contribute to business growth by actively promoting Priory therapy services in line with the local unit’s business plan.
6. Maintain effective communication links with patients, relatives, carers and purchasers throughout the patient’s rehabilitation.

What you’ll bring to the role

Our work is rewarding but can be challenging, so resilience is key. Your natural empathy will help you support others through both the highs and lows. Applicants must hold a BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy, together with full BAOT membership and HCPC registration.

What we will give you in return

We want you to succeed at Priory and thrive in your role. You will be well supported with regular career conversations and full training, and numerous pathways into leadership and qualified clinical positions to help you shape your career with us.
