1. Purpose of Job
The post-holder will work within the Placement Team, within the wider Marketing and Engagement team. This is a new and multi-functional role. The Placement Coach will:
1. Assess students in preparation for placement.
2. Assess students in placement in relation to work behaviours.
3. Source and secure placements and maintain good relationships with employers, liaising closely with Business Development Advisors to ensure there is no duplication of activity.
4. Liaise with curriculum teams to input reviews of students on placement.
5. Act as an advocate for the College at all times.
2. Core Tasks
1. Support and assess students in readiness for their placement, including leading learning sessions and formal assessment of student behaviours against criteria.
2. Support students on placement within employer premises, providing coaching and mentoring, and assisting with resolving issues.
3. Challenge students to achieve occupational goals, assess progress, and update their ILP, liaising with curriculum teams.
4. Keep accurate records of student progress and provide feedback to curriculum areas.
5. Assess and develop students' English, maths, and digital skills during placement.
6. Source placements for study programmes, liaising with employers to confirm their buy-in and ensuring criteria are met.
7. Contribute to developing a brochure for employers about the benefits of placements.
8. Support a caseload of students on long-term placements, assessing progress and updating curriculum areas.
9. Teach and assess generic skills as part of the T Level programme.
10. Maintain business relationships with employers and secure repeat business.
11. Update the CRM system with employer activity.
12. Undertake assessment reviews of students in employer premises, liaising with employers about progress.
13. Plan schedule and activities autonomously, reporting progress against targets.
14. Provide coaching to help students reflect and develop new skills.
15. Promote attendance, punctuality, and conduct, monitoring progress and communicating with students and employers.
16. Contribute to data returns and monitoring forms for ESFA.
17. Review paperwork annually in line with policies and quality requirements.
18. Assist students with portfolio preparation and completion.
19. Conduct health and safety, equality, and insurance checks, logging details on systems.
20. Participate in assessment scheme development and standardisation meetings.
21. Attend meetings with curriculum staff and contribute to student progress tracking.
22. Gather feedback from students and employers.
23. Support college events to promote student recruitment and employer engagement.
24. Contribute to quality improvement and self-assessment processes.
25. Support college policies, procedures, and health & safety policies.
26. Engage in professional development and staff appraisal.
27. Mentor new staff and colleagues as appropriate.
28. Perform other duties as required by the Principal and Chief Executive.
