Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join our experienced paediatric nursing team.

After a recent staffing review we are pleased to announce we are expanding our workforce.

Do you have significant experience as a paediatric staff nurse? Do you have evidence of continuing professional development within Paediatric Emergency Department nursing? Main duties of the job

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Patient Care Responsibilities 1.1 To maintain accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care within the framework of team nursing incorporating the Named Nurse initiative. 1.2 To proactively co-ordinate the patients’ discharge arrangements in accordance with RUH Discharge Policy ensuring involvement of other agencies as necessary. 1.3 To promote a patient focused approach to care in collaboration with all relevant health professionals. 1.4 To perform consistent, safe practice in a variety of situations, integrating theory and practice. 1.5 To educate patients and their carers as required where a need has been identified. 1.6 To provide information which enables patients’ to make choices about adopting a healthier lifestyle. 1.7 To ensure that all clinical documentation is completed correctly by members of the nursing team. 1.8 To maintain a safe department environment. 1.9 To assist in the establishment and monitoring of protocols/care pathways. 1.10 To promote and maintain effective communication within the ward/department. 1.11 To maintain patient confidentiality and ensure all staff understand the relevance of this. 1.12 To supervise junior staff in the delivery of care, through effective monitoring, mentoring, clinical supervision and reflective practice.

Knowledge


Essential criteria

1. relevant clinical experience at Band 5
2. Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice, particularly within specialty area and the application of this in practice


Qualifications and Training


Essential criteria

3. Registered Nurse RSCN/RN child
4. State Registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council
5. Emergency Care qualification or equivalent evidenced experience
6. Demonstrates evidence of ongoing continuous professional development
7. Teaching qualification


Desirable criteria

8. Post-registration training preferably in speciality area – APLS, PILS, TNCC/ATLS preferable
9. Any training in management / HR
10. Diploma/ Degree in relevant area

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
