Job Introduction
R&D supports the BBC's ambitions as a public service media organisation, focusing on the transition to an internet-only BBC. The Operations Technician will manage technical facilities in our London office, providing engineering and technical support within research laboratories and similar facilities.
Interview Process
Virtual interview lasting approximately one hour, including technical and values-based questions, and a 'Show & Tell' on soldering or a physical engineering project.
Main Responsibilities
1. Respond to support tickets and resolve user issues.
2. Maintain and organize laboratories and technical spaces.
3. Assist in creating risk assessments and maintaining electrical equipment safety.
4. Procure technical items and manage stocks of consumables.
5. Support experiments and events with technical assistance.
6. Manage assets and perform PAT testing (desirable but not essential).
7. Create technical documentation and troubleshooting guides.
Candidate Requirements
Essential
* Experience managing technical facilities and fault-finding in electronic or scientific systems.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and IT skills.
* Experience with electronic equipment inspection and repair, and familiarity with soldering.
* Ability to improve services proactively, work independently and as part of a team, and understand electrical safety and risk assessments.
Desirable
* Experience with ticketing systems, asset tracking, PAT testing programs, and problem-solving methodologies.
* Knowledge of analogue/digital, audio/video systems.
