Northumberland County Council is recruiting for a motivated and inspirational Lead Education Support Officer and SENCo to join our multi-disciplinary Virtual School team.
The successful candidate will have direct experience working with the cared for community, a working knowledge of relevant statutory requirements, and recent experience working in or with schools.
As the Lead Education Support Officer and SENCo, you will be passionate about making a difference in the educational outcomes for cared for and previously cared for children, ensuring they receive their entitlement to full-time, good-quality education. You will also promote the education of children with a social worker and children in kinship care.
You will monitor the education of children in care and care leavers by working with schools, education settings, and care teams to ensure that high-quality PEPs (Personal Education Plans) are in place that drive achievement.
You will manage a small team within the Virtual School that focuses on accelerating progress, raising aspirations, and achieving stability for all learners. You will lead on training needs of Designated Teachers and care teams to break down barriers and provide professional challenge where needed. Quality assurance of PEPs and the impact of Pupil Premium Plus will be core to this role.
