About the Role
A public sector organisation is seeking qualified
Environmental Health Officers
to join the Port Health Unit. Reporting to a Senior Environmental Health Officer (EHO), you will help protect and improve public health through inspections, investigations, and enforcement of environmental health legislation.

Key Responsibilities
* Conduct inspections and investigations of premises, buildings, land, vehicles, vessels, and aircraft.
* Assess health, safety, and environmental conditions, complete risk assessments, and determine compliance levels.
* Review technical reports, plans, and correspondence; provide recommendations and draft responses.
* Make authorised decisions under public sector enforcement policies, including serving notices, preparing prosecution cases, and attending hearings.
* Conduct sampling, investigations, and maintain accurate records using IT systems.
* Deliver health education and promotion activities; liaise with community, private, and voluntary sector partners.
* Respond to Freedom of Information (FOI) and Data Subject Access Requests.
* Lead or contribute to projects, departmental objectives, and public sector initiatives.
* Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to colleagues and trainees.
* Participate in emergency response and out-of-hours services as required.
Candidate Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Licences:
* Diploma in Environmental Health (CIEH) or equivalent recognised by the Environmental Health Officers' Registration Board.
* Full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle for work purposes.
Experience & Skills:
* At least
1–2 years of relevant Environmental Health Officer experience
(inspection, enforcement, or advisory roles).
* Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce professional reports.
* Technical knowledge of environmental health legislation and procedures.
* Ability to plan, prioritise, and manage workload independently.
* Team-working and decision-making skills, with practical judgment in enforcement actions.
* Customer care focus and engagement with business owners and the public.
* Competent in standard IT packages and specialised software relevant to Environmental Health.
