A well-regarded academy in Hertfordshire is seeking a talented and ambitious Second in Charge of English (2i/c) to join their successful department from September. This is a permanent position offering London Fringe salary and an excellent opportunity for an experienced English teacher ready to take the next step into leadership.
The school is known for its inclusive ethos, strong leadership, and commitment to high standards of teaching and learning. The English department is well-established, collaborative, and driven to achieve outstanding outcomes across Key Stages 3–5.
The Role
1. Support the Head of English in leading and developing the department
2. Drive high-quality teaching and learning across KS3–KS5
3. Assist in monitoring student progress and raising attainment
4. Contribute to curriculum planning and development
5. Lead on specific areas of responsibility within the department
6. Mentor and support colleagues, including ECTs
The Ideal Candidate
7. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
8. Strong classroom practitioner with a proven track record of results
9. Experience supporting departmental initiatives or leadership responsibilities
10. Passion for English and a commitment to student achievement
11. Ambitious and keen to progress into senior leadership in the future
