Improving our Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC) performance and pathways is one of the Trust’s most critical priorities. To maintain momentum in our ambitious UEC improvement programme—while sustaining strong elective performance—we are seeking an experienced and motivated leader to join us as Deputy Chief Operating Officer for Urgent and Emergency Care on a 12‑month secondment.
This is a high‑profile opportunity to work at the heart of the organisation, shaping delivery across the UEC pathway and influencing improvement at Trust and system level.

Main Responsibilities
You will hold specific responsibility for the operational leadership and management of Urgent and Emergency Care services across the Trust.
Working in close partnership with Divisional leadership teams, you will support business planning, service development and delivery, while identifying and implementing opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency and patient flow.
Alongside the Trust’s other Deputy Chief Operating Officer, you will provide collective leadership and direction to ensure the successful delivery of operational services across Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Foundation Trust. This will include ensuring services are safe, high‑quality and responsive to patient need, while operating within agreed financial frameworks.
In This Influential Role, You Will:
* Lead key programmes of work within the Trust’s Urgent and Emergency Care improvement programme, driving delivery and measurable impact.
* Provide high‑quality performance reporting, analysis and briefing papers for Executive colleagues and external partners.
* Support Divisional leadership teams to deliver operational priorities, performance objectives and improvement plans.
* Work closely with internal teams and system partners to improve patient flow, quality and outcomes across the emergency care pathway.
* Contribute to a strong, collaborative senior leadership culture focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
* Recent experience of managing Urgent and Emergency Care services and patient flow.
* Demonstrable experience of managing substantial projects, delivering to target, within constraints and on time.
* Extensive proven experience at senior management level including Operational Performance Management, Financial management and Strategy development.
