Offer description

Aegiq is seeking a talented Quantum Application Scientist to join our growing team, contributing to the development of advanced quantum computing software and algorithms. Reporting to the Head of Applications and working closely with both internal teams and external collaborators, this is a unique opportunity to develop your career in this fast growing, global technology leader as we shape the future of quantum technology.

As a Quantum Application Scientist at Aegiq, you will play a pivotal role in building scalable, high-impact solutions at the forefront of quantum computing. You’ll collaborate with experts in quantum algorithms, materials informatics, computational physics, and chemistry to develop novel approaches for quantum systems simulation and modelling. If you’re passionate about solving complex problems and thrive in an intellectually stimulating, interdisciplinary environment, we want to hear from you.

We’re looking for a creative and curious individual with strong coding expertise (e.g., python, Julia, C, or C++) deep understanding of computational methodologies, and an interest in developing practical quantum software solutions. Familiarity with quantum information science, fault-tolerant quantum computing and numerical approaches to quantum many-body problems is highly desirable.

You will work closely with our team of physicists, engineers, and scientists to translate cutting-edge research into robust, scalable software and develop industry-leading quantum algorithms tailored for Aegiq's photonic quantum computers.

Responsibilities

* Engage and collaborate with customers to develop innovative approaches to industry pain points utilising both quantum and quantum-inspired algorithms.
* Perform simulations of quantum many-body systems, to validate and improve the performance of quantum algorithms.
* Develop quantum-inspired tensor network algorithms across industry use cases.
* Produce technical documentation, tutorials, and developer resources. Contribute to publications, presentations and patent applications.
* Ensure seamless integration with Aegiq’s photonic quantum hardware and interoperability with HPC environments.
* Collaborate with partners and internal teams to develop and maintain high-performance quantum computing software.

Essential criteria

* A PhD (or equivalent experience) in physics, computer science, mathematics, or a related field. Exceptional candidates with a Master’s degree in quantum physics will also be considered.
* Strong programming skills in Python, Julia, C, or C++, with experience in numerical and high-performance computing.
* A problem-solving mindset with a passion for developing innovative technical solutions in a collaborative environment.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Desirable criteria

* Experience with tensor network algorithms and/or development of tensor network libraries.
* Familiarity with quantum many-body simulation, quantum computing, quantum information theory, quantum algorithm design, fluid dynamics, and/or materials modelling.
* Competence in modern software development practices (e.g. Git, CI/CD, code modularity and testing).
* Hands-on experience with tools like iTensor, cuQuantum, Qiskit, Cirq, or similar quantum software libraries.
* Competitive salary based on experience
* 25 days annual leave, plus UK bank holidays and Christmas closure days
* Private Medical & Dental Cover
* NEST Pension
* Flexible and family-friendly working arrangements
* Hybrid working options
* Cycle-to-work scheme
* City centre office location
