That is particularly true of the Darlington community and that's why Darlington Assistance for Refugees (DAR) was created. Our 75 volunteers are testimony to that.
At DAR we care passionately that everyone who seeks sanctuary in this country deserves to be welcomed, treated with dignity and supported in building their life in the UK. Our volunteers support new asylum seeker arrivals in Darlington by providing English teaching, advice and friendship while they navigate the asylum process. We are proud of our achievements and have now reached a point in our development where we wish to appoint an Interim Chief Officer for 6 months.
Role Responsibilities
As our Interim Chief Officer, you will work closely with our Founder and Trustee Board to review our current structure and objects and determine our future operating strategy.
The principal objectives are as follow:
· Ensure the interests, welfare and safety of sanctuary seekers and volunteers are inherent in every aspect of DAR activities.
· Review current services and organisation structure and propose a framework for future service delivery.
· Review current policies and procedures to ensure DAR meets its statutory obligations and strategic goals.
· Lead, engage and inspire DAR's members to deliver the highest standards of support and to meet DAR's goals
· In conjunction with the Board of Trustees, ensure a sustainable income by developing and delivering a long-term funding strategy. Maintain effective relationships with current and potential funders, ensuring contract monitoring and reporting requirements are delivered.
· Prepare a business plan, resource plan and budget to enable the delivery of the proposed framework
Skills/Experience Required
Essential
· Experience of leading an organisation at CEO or similar level in a commercial business or charity
· Effective strategy and business planning
· Skilled budget planner
· Flair for networking and relationship building at all levels
· Able to communicate at a high level in both written and spoken English
· Collaborative, supportive and persuasive
· The ability to influence at a high level
· Strategic thinking skills
· Approachable and sensitive to the feelings of others
· Able to present a message to diverse groups
· Experience of contract management
Desirable
· Previous experience of managing a charity or similar environment
· Previous experience of managing volunteers
· Lived experience of the asylum or immigration system
· Track record in delivering successful funding bids
· Project management and/or consultancy experience
· Understanding of charity governance and regulations
· Project management experience
Job Types: Part-time, Fixed term contract, Freelance
Contract length: 6-12 months
Pay: £30,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
