As an Operational Support Grade, you will play a key part in supporting the day-to-day running of a busy prison. You will be part of a supportive team doing various tasks – from security and searches at the gate, managing deliveries, supervising visitors, to monitoring phone calls and CCTV. It’s a varied and active role involving both desk duties and physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, and walking to escort vehicles across the prison grounds.
Travel to Work – Some prison establishments are in rural locations with limited public transport. Therefore, a driving licence and own transport are beneficial but not essential unless specified. Please note that shift start and finish times are fixed, and it is your responsibility to arrive on time. Consider the location and your transport options carefully.
Applicants must hold a full, valid UK driving licence that includes the D1 vehicle category, allowing you to drive vehicles with:
* No more than 16 passenger seats, a maximum length of 8 metres, and a trailer up to 750kg.

You will help keep the prison running smoothly and safely, using good judgment, common sense, and teamwork.
The role involves working various shifts, including weekends and nights, to ensure continuous operations.

The OSG role provides valuable knowledge and experience of prison operations and opportunities to progress into other roles, including applying for the OSG to Prison Officer conversion scheme.
