Why this job matters
As a lead consultant in our Defence Solution Design Authority practice, you will be working as a trusted industry partner to our defence customer and cross-functionally supporting internal business units (Sales, Business, Technology, Security, and Operations), key stakeholders, and externally facing third-party technology providers as part of and reporting into the practice manager.
You will work with internal key stakeholders, the customer, and its subsidiary departments to conceptualise their strategic vision, capture requirements, and define and create innovative, fit-for-purpose digital solutions that meet their digital strategy and transform their business operations.
This will be underpinned by a robust ICT framework architecture, security principles, methodologies, industry best practices, and customer compliance policies. As a solution architect, you will provide expert solution architecture expertise and ownership throughout all stages of the solutions design engagement lifecycle.
You will be part of an industry-leading Solution Design Authority team working closely with other architects, designers, technology experts, business managers, and business analysts. You will bring your expertise and diverse experience to each challenge, ensuring successful solution delivery across a wide range of highly sensitive and unique opportunities and projects.
Job Overview
As a Compute Network Designer at BT, you will play a pivotal role in designing and developing scalable, secure, and high-performance network infrastructure solutions. Your work will support BT’s extensive network ecosystem, spanning cloud, data centers, and enterprise systems. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to implement the latest networking technologies that ensure seamless performance for both internal and customer-facing services.
What you’ll be doing
* Engaging with the customer, business stakeholders, and key partners to provide end-to-end architecture governance, leadership, and solution decision-making aligned with the Solution Design Authority architecture principles.
* Developing and owning enterprise architecture artifacts, strategies, and roadmaps from a business and technology perspective, including ‘as-is’, ‘to-be’, and transitional states addressing stakeholder requirements.
* Providing subject matter expertise to business key stakeholders and units, offering consultative engagement, and shaping complex service change, delivery, and resource requirements.
* Owning and engaging key stakeholders and business units in responding to complex customer Requests for Information, Contract Change Notifications, Solution Design Proposals, and new business bids throughout all stages of the design lifecycle.
* Delivering architecture artifacts such as proof of concept, whitepapers, bid proposals (PQQ, ITT), and high-level design collateral addressing customer requirements and complex scenarios.
Skills You'll Need
• Enterprise networks (IP Layer 1-7)
• Enterprise network security and boundary protection
• Service provider networks (e.g., DWDN, SDH, OTN)
• ICT vendor technologies, solutions, and products (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, F5, Nokia)
• Industry architecture methodologies & languages (e.g., TOGAF, ArchiMate, ITIL, BPMN)
• Experience with enterprise architecture tools (e.g., iServer, IBM Doors)
• Responding to complex, multi-vendor public sector propositions and bid proposals based on customer requirements (RFI, PQQ, ITN, ITT)
• Developing solution roadmaps and governance structures aligned with customer needs
