The post-holder will work collaboratively with service users, their families, carers, and multi‑disciplinary team members to deliver assessment, care planning and coordination of care, supporting collaborative decision‑making about care and treatment. The role also includes delivering wellbeing‑focused, psychologically informed interventions that are aligned to cognitive‑behavioural principles and best evidence, under the supervision of a clinical or counselling psychologist / CBT therapist.
Key Responsibilities
 * Hold a graduate or postgraduate certificate delivering the National Curriculum for Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners (Adult Specialist Mental Health).
 * Work closely with colleagues in a multi‑disciplinary team to deliver interventions for service users.
 * Carry out relevant risk assessments and risk management with the multi‑disciplinary team.
 * Engage with and gather information from service users, relatives and patient records to develop a formulation and care plan.
 * Collaborate with the service user, family and carers (as appropriate) to set strengths‑based, outcome‑focused care plans.
 * Provide specified wellbeing‑focused, psychologically informed interventions under close supervision, including:
 o Behavioural activation and graded exposure
 o Teaching problem‑solving skills
 o Improving sleep
 o Recognising and managing emotions
 o Guided self‑help for bulimia and binge‑eating
 o Building confidence
 o Medication support
 * Respond to service users’ needs and choices and uphold their right to be treated with dignity and respect.
 * Include carers and families in line with the service user’s wishes.
 * Attend multi‑disciplinary reviews and act as named worker for a caseload of service users, supporting and monitoring progress.
 * Set collaborative goals for intervention with service users.
 * Liaise with other health and care providers, including third‑sector agencies and primary care, to ensure continuity of care.
 * Communicate assessment, formulation and care plans to the multi‑disciplinary team sensitively and effectively.
 * Develop collaborative relapse‑prevention plans.
 * Deal with endings appropriately and safely with service users, families and carers.
Essential Qualifications
 * Graduate or postgraduate certificate delivering the National Curriculum for Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners (Adult Specialist Mental Health).
 * Experience of working with people with mental health needs gained through supervised graduate or postgraduate practice.
 * Experience running groups or activities.
 * Experience working as part of a team and being supervised.
 * Analytical and communication skills for conveying complex information verbally and in writing.
 * Appropriate UK professional registration.
Desirable Criteria
 * Lived experience of mental health issues or difficulties.
 * Able to establish and maintain empathic, supportive relationships with people in significant distress or cognitively impaired individuals, their families and carers.
 * Ability to uphold confidentiality and communicate sensitive client information, including with family members.
 * Empathetic, reassuring communication style and good use of clinical supervision.
 * Capability to liaise with external agencies to support service users’ wellbeing.
 * Skilled worker visa status (if required) and willingness to understand and comply with sponsorship criteria.
Applicants should be able to develop their skills working with adults who have severe and enduring mental illness, some of whom have not previously accessed psychologically informed interventions.
