Teacher of English + TLR: Whole School Leadership of Reading, Literacy and Oracy

We are seeking to appoint a talented and committed Teacher of English, with the opportunity for the right candidate to take on a whole-school leadership role to lead on Reading, Literacy and Oracy.

The Opportunity
We are looking to secure a high-quality teacher who can strengthen the English department, maintain strong curriculum delivery and contribute to sustained improvement. To strengthen this recruitment further, we are also offering the addition of a TLR responsibility to provide strategic leadership of Reading, Literacy and Oracy across the school.
Developing learners’ literacy, oracy and a love of reading is a whole-school improvement priority at SWHS and a key driver of improved curriculum access, learner confidence and outcomes particularly for our most vulnerable learners.
The TLR Role: Whole school leadership of Reading, Literacy and Oracy
This role will be pivotal in accelerating whole-school improvement through the continued development and implementation of our structured, consistent literacy strategy.
The postholder will:
•Lead and develop whole-school literacy across the curriculum
•Embed structured talk and oracy routines through our Talk to Learn approach
•Strengthen vocabulary development and disciplinary literacy across subjects
•Support departments to ensure teachers explicitly teach reading and writing in every subject
