Job overview

Barts Health NHS Trust is looking for a dynamic and driven Assistant Hospital Logistics Manager to support our growing Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service (NEPTS). This is a key operational leadership role, working closely with the Hospital Logistics Manager and reporting indirectly to the General Manager for NEPTS.

You will play a vital role in ensuring our NEPTS operations are scalable, efficient, and exceed the expectations of patients and stakeholders. With over 200 drivers and operational staff under your leadership, you’ll champion service delivery, innovation, and continuous improvement - supporting the Trust’s values of WeCare.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities:
• Day-to-day leadership of a large NEPTS team across multiple sites
• Drive improvements in operational systems, driver performance, and fleet management
• Ensure compliance with vehicle safety standards and relevant policies
• Support vehicle procurement and modernization initiatives
• Build effective partnerships with clinical teams and central control operations
• Promote a positive, inclusive, and patient-centred culture

We're looking for a hands-on leader with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, capable of operating in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Experience in logistics, transport, or NHS operational roles is essential.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Relevant professional qualification and management expertise gained within the field or equivalent.
2. Detailed understanding of the NEPTS system - Cleric

Experience

Essential criteria

3. Recent and relevant experience of working in the NHS in a senior role in transport or similar.
4. Experience in the development and implementation of operational processes and systems.
5. Experience in using computerized systems as well as PC based facilities such as spread sheets, databases etc.
6. Experience of staff change management.
7. Managing & Recruitment of staff.

Desirable criteria

8. Significant experience in a senior management position.
9. Experience in process mapping.

Communication

Essential criteria

10. Good presentational skills for conveying complex concepts.
11. Ability to use informed persuasion to influence others

Knowledge

Essential criteria

12. Understands the need to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes

Desirable criteria

13. Extensive knowledge of regulations and CQC requirements in operating patient transport services.

14. Ability to implement and maintain a safety culture using robust safety leadership skills
15. Able to provide leadership and motivation to staff and develop individuals
16. Ability to manage a large team of staff to deliver a high quality professional service.
17. persuade others up, down and across NHS organizations and represent / act as an ambassador to the Trust.
18. Excellent interpersonal and people management skills.
