A leading mid-size commercial law firm based in London is seeking an experienced Risk & Compliance Director to lead the firm’s risk management and regulatory compliance strategy.
This is a key leadership role, working closely with the senior management team to safeguard the firm’s reputation, ensure compliance with all regulatory obligations, and promote a culture of integrity and best practice across the business.
Responsibilities include:
* Develop and implement the firm’s risk and compliance framework, tailored to its practice areas and client base.
* Advise senior management on regulatory developments and compliance matters affecting the firm.
* Oversee compliance with SRA Standards and Regulations and support the firm’s COLP, MLRO and MLCO.
* Lead the firm’s response to SRA audits, inspections, and other regulatory reviews.
* Manage AML compliance, including policies, controls and procedures, and provide training across the firm.
* Advise Partners and fee earners on client due diligence, source of funds/wealth checks, conflicts of interest, confidentiality, and other professional conduct issues.
* Maintain and monitor compliance registers, including breaches, complaints, and gifts.
* Oversee renewals of professional indemnity, cyber, and commercial crime insurance policies.
* Promote a proactive, ethical, and compliant culture throughout the firm.
What we need from you:
* Significant experience in a senior risk and compliance role within a law firm.
* A strong understanding of SRA Standards and Regulations, AML legislation, and best practices.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
* Strong technical and analytical skills, with the ability to balance detail with strategic oversight.
* Leadership qualities, commercial awareness, and a collaborative working style.
* A legal qualification (Solicitor of England & Wales) would be advantageous but is not essential.
