Job Summary
· Responsible for the day to day management of the unit dose laboratory (UDL) alongside the project manager as appropriate.
· Provide professional leadership and management of the pharmacists and technical staff involved in the preparation and distribution of unit doses in accordance with GMP and MHRA licensing requirements and UHL policies.
· Ensure effective communication with NHS staff on all aspects of the Optimed project particularly, but not exclusively, around medicines management,
· Ensure the training by Deenova staff on the use of Deenova equipment but particularly the Mario cabinet is to the required standard
· Provide strategic input to unit dose service provision and delivery
· Participate in on call/out of hours duties and services as required
Responsibilities
· Provide professional leadership, management and supervision of Deenova Pharmacist and technical staff involved in the preparation of unit doses of medicines in the UDL and in accordance with GMP and MHRA licensing requirements
· Together with the project manager produce, review, update and maintain Standard Operating Procedures, training materials and policies for all parts of the system, ensuring that there is no conflict with Trust-wide policies and Pharmacy policies and procedures
· Oversee and ensure the efficient technical and organizational operation of the Unit Dose Laboratory
· Provide supervision and control of the UDL temperature, proper hygiene procedures, and all aspects connected to safety of operators, reporting any breaches to the Company to ensure compliance with GMP, MHRA licensing and Deenova standards
· Appropriate management of all equipment errors with verification and management of any subsequent production errors and reporting as appropriate.
· Use, support and maintenance of automation technologies, process management and other activities related to unit doses repackaging and distribution to ensure safe and efficient service delivery.
· Use of Deenova software (Orbit) for configuration of new wards, new unit doses and supply related functions and troubleshooting the interface with Nervecentre and JAC along with UHL team and with Deenova IT to resolve any software related issues
· Liaison with NHS staff regarding provision of unit doses to ensure an effective interface between UDL, pharmacy purchasing office and main dispensary operations
· Provide training and oversight of Deenova staff in delivery of support to Ward personnel on the operation of the Mario Cabinet including review and updating of training material for the system to ensure its safe and appropriate use.
· With the assistance of the project team, assist in the design and implementation of appropriate monitoring systems at ward and dispensary level to show the impact and safe use of the system.
· Respond to comment and complaint on the system, resolving complex problems and dealing with unanticipated issues, referring to the project manager where necessary.
· Promote and maintain good communication and efficient working throughout the pharmacy OptiMed service
· Attend and contribute to hospital and Deenova company meetings as necessary
· Participate in the on-call rota / and or shift working supporting the system out of hours, answering queries and dealing with problems that occur to ensure that the medical and nursing staff can continue the provision of care to patients on the wards that use the Deenova Automation systems
· Carries out any other duties as may be required within the nature and responsibilities of the post including, where necessary, those of other Deenova staff
Person Specification
Required
· Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
· 3 years post registration experience as a pharmacist
· Strong team working skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and healthcare professionals in a demanding fast paced innovative environment
· Ability to foster team spirit and manage conflicts with authority and a proactive, mediating approach
· Experience in good stock management
· Good (written and verbal) communication skills
· Good problem solving skills and a proactive approach
· Attention to detail and accuracy in stock management and documentation
· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Spreadsheet management for inventory tracking and reporting
· Based in Leicester
Desirable
· Hospital pharmacy experience
· With particular reference to the management of medicines warehouses
· Working knowledge of GMP
· Experience of staff management
