A large, well-established secondary school in Watford is seeking a committed and highly organised Science Technician to join their successful Science Faculty for an immediate start. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys practical scientific work, thrives in a busy environment, and values supporting students’ understanding of hands-on learning. The role plays a crucial part in the smooth daily operation of the department and is perfect for a candidate who wants to work in an educational setting while contributing meaningfully to teaching and learning. The successful applicant will work across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, supporting practical lessons, demonstrations, and equipment preparation for KS3–KS5. You will be responsible for ensuring that apparatus, chemicals and teaching resources are prepared promptly and safely ahead of lessons, following strict departmental and COSHH safety regulations. A key element of the role is maintaining accurate stock levels, assisting with ordering supplies, managing safe chemical storage, and ensuring that laboratories remain clean, safe and fully functional at all times. The school offers an excellent working environment with a supportive Science team, strong leadership oversight, and a genuinely collaborative atmosphere. Teachers and technicians work closely together, and you will be part of a department where your contribution is valued. The school has modern labs, excellent preparation areas, strong technician-to-teacher ratios, and a well-equipped resource bank that enables practical learning to take place regularly and to a high standard. The suitable candidate will be organised, efficient, and capable of prioritising tasks throughout the school day. You will ideally have some background in science — whether laboratory experience, A-Level science, a degree, or prior technician work — though the school is prepared to provide training for someone with the right attitude and willingness to learn. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a positive, proactive mindset are essential. This is a full-time, term-time only position and offers a competitive salary based on experience. It would suit someone who enjoys working with young people, takes pride in being part of a team, and wants to play an important behind-the-scenes role in shaping students’ science education.
