Due to continued growth within their criminal defence offering, the firm is now looking to recruit a Criminal Solicitor to join their established team in Leeds. This role will specialise in matters relating to dangerous dog cases, including allegations involving illegal breeds, dogs dangerously out of control, and cases involving injury or public safety concerns. This is an excellent opportunity to join a reputable firm handling interesting and varied criminal defence work within a supportive and collaborative environment.
Position
The successful candidate will manage a caseload of criminal matters relating primarily to dangerous dog legislation, including offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 and related regulations. You will represent clients facing allegations involving prohibited breeds, dogs dangerously out of control, and incidents involving injury to members of the public or other animals.
The role will involve advising clients from the initial instruction through to case resolution, including representation at police stations, Magistrates' Courts, and where necessary the Crown Court. You will prepare legal arguments, draft case documentation, and liaise with expert witnesses such as veterinary professionals and behavioural specialists where required.
You will work closely with colleagues to ensure all matters are progressed effectively while providing clear, practical advice to clients during what can often be highly sensitive and complex cases.
