An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Civil Claims Investigator in the Civil Claims Team of Essex Police Legal Department based at Essex Police Headquarters in Chelmsford.
The post is for 30 hours per week during a Monday – Friday working pattern; the working pattern will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate.
Under the supervision of the Civil Claims Manager, your primary role will involve processing and investigating new civil claims received into the Legal Department. You will be required to enter the details of new claims on the civil claims case management system, gather all relevant documents and evidence from all Essex Police IT systems, make contact with officers in the case, retrieve relevant e‑mails, arrange interviews of witnesses and prepare the case for consideration of liability by the Civil Claims Lawyer or Civil Claims Manager.
You will assist in the day‑to‑day management of civil claims cases ensuring that deadlines are not missed and responses are sent and court documents filed in a timely manner. You will undertake administrative tasks to assist the Civil Claims Lawyer and Civil Claims Manager such as organising interviews with witnesses, taking statements, organising conferences with Counsel or external solicitors, preparing statistics and reports as required to assist with risk management and identification of trends and as requested by stakeholder departments/agencies.
Successful candidates must demonstrate the following in their application:
 * Strong IT and organisation skills, together with the ability to work independently and under pressure.
 * Strong verbal and written communication skills
 * Strong interpersonal and communication skills allowing them to converse effectively across a broad spectrum of people from members of the public to Chief Officers.
 * The ability to work under your own initiative and to take in information quickly and accurately before making decisions.

Essex Police offer agile working which allows some flexibility in terms of work arrangements. Due to the operational nature of this role, it will be predominantly office based within an office‑based team. Some travel may be required to other police sites to discharge duty.
