A vacancy has arisen in the Business Rates Team. Cardiff Council annually collects more than £170m in business rates from around 13,000 businesses in Cardiff. The team also collects a Business Improvement District levy from businesses based in and around the City Centre.
About the job
This is a senior post within the business rates team, based at County Hall. This permanent post is suitable for hybrid working, combining home and office working; once trained, you will be expected to attend the office two days per week, as well as attending magistrates’ court hearings for the purpose of obtaining liability orders several times each year.
The post holder will be expected to ensure that the billing database is accurate and balances to the Valuation List. You will assess liability to pay rates and assist with the prompt issue of bills and the collection of the rates due. You will be expected to deal with complex enquiries from ratepayers both by email and telephone.

You will be organised and motivated with a can-do attitude and driven by excellent customer service, displaying the core behavioural competencies which support the Council’s values.
You must have knowledge of local taxation and an organised and methodical approach to work. You should have experience of working in a busy, customer facing role, be confident in engaging with customers and have an aptitude for learning.
Effective interpersonal skills are essential due to the range of individuals and organisations that you will interact with.
