Offer description

Permanent with funding until 31/3/27

35 hours per week (some flexibility required).

£26,100 per annum

Manchester – city wide, with mobile working and a base at the Wythenshawe office

The Children’s Society has been helping children and young people in this country for over 140 years. We deliver essential local services that provide safe, trusted support to children and young people during times of significant need.

This role sits within our Youth Impact Domain, which works to provide immediate one-to-one and group support for children who urgently need support. Your role will be to deliver trauma‑informed therapeutic interventions for children and young people affected by domestic abuse, and to support parents and carers to improve safety, well-being and family relationships.

We are looking for a skilled, compassionate and child‑centred practitioner with experience of working with children and young people affected by domestic abuse and complex trauma. You will be confident working both independently and as part of a multi‑disciplinary team, bringing a calm, reflective and professional approach to emotionally demanding work.

Key skills and competencies

The required skills and competencies for this role are:

1. Ability to engage children and young people in trauma‑informed emotional health and well-being work.
2. Strong assessment, risk management and safeguarding skills when working with domestic abuse.
3. Experience of effective multi‑agency working and coordinating support around families.
4. Confident at managing a varied caseload in a busy service, responding to need in a timely way while maintaining high‑quality, child‑centred practice

It would also be an advantage if you have any of the following skills and competencies:

5. Experience delivering therapeutic group work with children and young people.
6. Relevant qualification in youth work, counselling, social work, play therapy or similar.
7. Mental Health First Aid training or similar specialist training.

The Children’s Society runs over 100 local services that help thousands of young people who desperately need our support, and we campaign to get laws and policies changed to make children’s lives happier and safer.

Every day we’re changing the lives of children in this country for the better – and with your help, tomorrow we can be there for even more.

The Children’s Society is committed to safeguarding and protecting the children and young people we work with. As such, all posts are subject to a safer recruitment process, which includes the disclosure of criminal records, vetting checks, and the provision of appropriate references. The number and type of references required may vary depending on the nature and responsibilities of the role, ensuring that each appointment is carefully assessed. We have a comprehensive range of policies and procedures in place to promote safeguarding and safer working practices across all areas of our organisation.

The closing date for applications is midnight on 7th May.

Interviews will be held on Friday 15th May, in person at the Wythenshawe office.
