The role
As an Environment Sustainability Lead, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be a key member of the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Team, leading the development of Babcock’s environmental culture and sustainability strategy.
Day-to-day, you’ll:
1. Develop and implement a forward-thinking sustainability strategy, collaborating with stakeholders to drive environmental improvement plans and monitor progress
2. Report on legal and voluntary commitments, including greenhouse gas emissions, carbon footprint, and packaging, while supporting bid teams with project-specific KPIs
3. Contribute to business-wide reporting, including dashboards, KPIs, and tools like Synergi Life and Envizi, ensuring accurate and insightful environmental data
4. Support compliance and best practice, by monitoring legislation, assisting with audits, and advising on ISO standards and corrective actions
5. Promote environmental awareness, through training, incident investigation support, and representing Mission Systems at Group Environmental forums
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Environment Sustainability Lead
6. Proven experience in a similar environmental or sustainability-focused role, with a track record of delivering impactful initiatives
7. Strong knowledge of current and emerging environmental legislation and its practical application in a business context
8. Experience in regulatory compliance, environmental planning or permitting, and working with diverse internal and external stakeholders
9. Demonstrated ability in environmental reporting, including greenhouse gas emissions, carbon footprint assessments, and decarbonisation strategies
10. Skilled in leading decarbonisation, energy efficiency, and biodiversity projects, with the ability to influence and inspire others toward sustainability goals
Qualifications for the Environment Sustainability Lead
11. Chartered Environmentalist (or working towards)
12. Bachelor’s degree in science, environment, or engineering (or equivalent)
13. Suitable project management qualification (desirable)
