Responsibilities
* Provide holistic care to children and families in the hospice and sometimes in the community, following care plans and working under nursing supervision.
* Deliver clinical care for children with complex needs (e.g., personal care, feeding, seizure management, tracheostomy and oxygen care).
* Administer medication safely under indirect supervision.
* Carry out delegated clinical tasks after appropriate training and assessment.
* Monitor children’s conditions, reporting any changes promptly to senior staff.
* Use and maintain specialist equipment safely, reporting faults when needed.
* Support families emotionally, including pre‑ and post‑bereavement care.
* Engage children in play and activities to support development, enjoyment and memory‑making.
* Contribute to daily hospice tasks, including light domestic duties and supporting outings (including driving hospice vehicles).
* Communicate effectively with families, colleagues and external contacts, and share feedback.
* Maintain safety, stock and equipment standards, and support regulatory (CQC) requirements.
* Work collaboratively with the care team and external agencies.
* Support safeguarding, reporting concerns and participating in supervision processes.
* Promote family involvement in care decisions and respect cultural needs.
* Continue professional development through training, supervision and reflective practice.
Qualifications (Desirable)
* NVQ Level 2 (health and social care) qualification or equivalent
Experience (Essential)
* Experience working with children in a professional children’s setting such as early years, learning disability, education or healthcare.
