Job Overview

We are looking for a Band 5 nurse who has an interest in cardiac nursing.

There is an opportunity to join our team of experienced nurses on ward 4A Ward where we will support you with your individual needs as a nurse, providing you with strong clinical and professional skills, confidence and competence, resilience and strong leadership skills preparing you for diverse future career opportunities.

4A is a busy Cardiac Ward, specialising in pre and post-operative care, as well as Day 0 and Day 1 post op patients. We recently implemented our ERACS (early recovery after cardiac surgery) pathway on the ward which enables us to establish a quicker recovery time for our patients resulting in a shortened stay for our Cardiac patients.

We are a specialised ward where you will learn to be competent in various skills, some of which would be in understanding and operating external pacing, ECG recognition, pacing wire removal, CVC care and removal, thoracic drain care and removal, PCA's, oral and IV medications, PVB's, VAC dressings and experience in managing the deteriorating patient

Main duties of the job

St Bartholomew's Hospital is an internationally renowned teaching hospital in the City of London, close to St Paul's cathedral. The hospital is a centre of excellence for cardiac care, offering state-of-the-art treatments for the full range of heart and thorax conditions. We are growing our aorta vascular surgical pathway treating complex patients on the wards and critical care, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, and enhanced recovery in our cardiac and thoracic surgery areas.

Our band 5 position will provide you with the opportunity to learn specialist skills and expand your knowledge. Our experienced team of educators and senior nurses can provide you with guidance and suggestion to help you maximise your experience and learning.

As well as working alongside experienced nurses in the clinical areas you will supported and guided by our in house education team, each of our floors has a dedicated clinical nurse educator to support the nursing teams on both the wards and critical care areas. Access to the Trust preceptorship programme is offered for all newly registered nurses this offers protected learning and peer support sessions with colleagues across the Trust. You will attend study days and have access to learning opportunities including in-house courses, simulation, and virtual learning
