Research Assistant (Audio Data Collection) – Onsite | Cambridge, UK | 11-month contract (extension likely)


Location: Cambridge area, UK (onsite)

This is a unique opportunity to work hands-on with cutting-edge audio research and prototype technologies in a brand-new, state-of-the-art data collection facility near Cambridge.

As a Research Assistant, you will support experimental data collection activities, collaborate with world-class engineers and researchers, and play an important role in advancing technologies that redefine human hearing and communication.


Key Responsibilities

• Support the execution of research data collection activities in a modern lab environment

• Work closely with Audio and Systems Engineers during data collection campaigns

• Assist internal and external participants, ensuring clear understanding of study protocols and tasks

• Set up and operate basic research equipment and data collection systems

• Accurately record, manage, and validate metadata with strong attention to detail

• Coordinate with Project Coordinators and stakeholders to support scheduling and daily operations

• Contribute to experiment planning and protocol development

• Run selected data collection sessions and subjective experiments with simple technical setups

• Demonstrate prototype devices and support participant technical interactions

• Provide general administrative support to the Data Team


Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (e.g., natural sciences, psychology, humanities) or equivalent practical experience

• 2–4 years’ experience in a research or experimental environment, including data collection and running studies

• Strong organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with confidence working with research participants and cross-functional teams

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet tools


Nice to Have

• Programming experience (e.g., Python or R)

• Experience working with prototype or experimental devices

• Understanding of audio through academic study, professional experience, or personal projects (e.g., music production/recording)
