We are looking for a Section Engineer to join our Infrastructure - Roads team on site based in Kent/Essex.
The Lower Thames Crossing is a significant infrastructure project aimed at providing an alternative crossing for the River Thames. Currently, the Dartford Crossing experiences significant overcapacity-related delays during peak times. The completed works will consist of three main contracts: North Roads, Tunnels, and Kent Roads. This project will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain by easing congestion on the existing Thames crossing and wider highways network.
The Skanska Kent Roads Contract includes:
Upgraded sections of the A2/M2 west of the new LTC junction.
3.5km of highway east of the LTC junction (including Junction 1 of the M2).
Complex utility diversions including HV/LV, Gas, Water & Comms.
Multiple bridge & retaining wall structures.
Bridge demolition and reconstruction.
New side and access roads.
Major earthworks and construction of site compounds.
What you'll do:
1. Design & Planning: Develop the design, construction methodology, programme, and cost plans. Prepare for delivery by ensuring all necessary resources are procured in a timely manner and pre-start documentation is completed.
2. Programme Management: Assess actual programmes and productivity weekly; take appropriate actions based on assessments and report changes to the Agent/Sub Agent and QS department.
3. Team Leadership: Manage, supervise, train, and mentor the site team to optimize their work contribution.
4. Programme Development: Review and develop detailed site-specific programmes; assess actual productivity weekly and report any changes to relevant departments.
5. Subcontractor Management: Be fully conversant with subcontractor contract conditions; manage subcontractor accounts with the QS team.
6. Resource Management: Requisition resources timely to ensure correct specification and availability to prevent impediments to the construction programme.
7. Communication & Documentation: Communicate non-conformances to the Agent/Sub Agent, QA, and QS teams. Maintain comprehensive records of resources employed on additional works.
8. Daily Records Maintenance: Keep a full and accurate daily site diary including any changes/variations, subcontractor attendance, and work-related discussions with Client Team.
9. Quality Control & Safety Compliance: Ensure that inspection/test plans, risk assessments, method statements for control works are implemented adhered to. Demonstrate commitment to Health & Safety/Environmental Policies implementing relevant requirements of Safety Management System within responsibility area.
10. Liaison Duties: Internal liaison with Delivery Design Engineering QA Commercial Teams.
What you'll bring to the role:
11. Degree-level qualification (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or allied subject or HND in Civil Engineering with vocational training in Engineering.
12. Extensive knowledge of construction techniques/sequencing/best practices.
13. Understanding/experience working with construction contracts
14. Ability to use initiative based on engineering/practical experience; capable of working independently/proactively while also collaborating effectively within integrated teams
15. Proficiency in MS Word Excel PowerPoint Document Control Systems Auto CAD
16. Excellent communication skills adaptable different audiences
17. Relevant CSCS Card Training Health & Safety Environmental management
18. Full drivers licence.
