CLINICAL DUTIES
* Competently perform a wide range of highly complex and highly specialised cardiac investigations. These skills must include the ability to perform, analyse, report echocardiograms in accordance with BSE standards.
* Act appropriately in the event of significant adverse findings within a Physiologist led investigation, alerting Medical staff when immediate medical attention is required.
* Plan and prioritise personal workload.
* Communicate complex instructions and clinical information effectively to patients of all ages, and their relatives, to ensure cooperation and compliance, to obtain accurate technical and clinical data and to maximise the patient's safety and medical wellbeing.
* Use judgement and clinical experience to assess when advice is required from senior Physiology staff or Medical staff.
* Responsible for ensuring patients are monitored appropriately during investigations and procedures.
* Demonstrate awareness of clinical conditions/clinical events that may occur during investigations and ensure swift and appropriate action is taken to minimise life threatening or significant medical events, particularly during cardiac exercise testing, tilt testing, cardiac device implants or follow-ups, cardiac angiography or PCI where adverse cardiac or respiratory events are likely to be induced. To provide immediate life support skills, including manual defibrillation, if required.
Experience
Experience in all aspects of technical echocardiography, including practice with a wide range of technical equipment. Also, to include experience at a senior level of independent practice including investigation, interpretation, reporting and recommending alternative investigations
Experience of applying theoretical knowledge into patient care
Experience across a broad range of cardiac diagnostic and intervention procedures
Evidence of recent continued professional development.
