Kirklees Council are advertising this role on behalf of West Yorkshire Joint Services. The West Yorkshire Archive Service is currently looking to recruit four Collections Moves Assistants based at the West Yorkshire Archive Service, Kirklees (primarily Red Doles Lane, Huddersfield site but also Victoria Lane, Huddersfield).
Responsibilities
* The successful candidate will be working as part of a team to prepare the Kirklees archive collections to move into new premises in 2026, developed as part of Kirklees Council’s Our Cultural Heart Project.
* The role will involve preparing the collections to move by systematically cleaning, packaging, labelling and barcoding the archive collections to agreed standards.
* The role will also involve helping to facilitate the safe and secure transfer of the archive collections between archive stores and sites.
* The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent attention to detail and the ability to work well as part of a team.
* A knowledge of relevant ICT systems, administrative experience and 4 GCSE passes (Grade A, B or C / 9-4) or equivalent, including English language and mathematics is essential.
* A knowledge of how archive services operate and of local history would be an advantage.
* You will possess a level of fitness to enable you to fulfil the physical aspects of the role, including an ability to lift and carry.
* This role would be suited to someone seeking to gain introductory experience in collections care, prior to a beginning a career in archives, museums or conservation.
