Job Description:
Duties/Responsibilities:
* Under the general management and supervision of the Nurse Manager and/or direction of the Registered Nurse, performs activities including:
* Direct and continuous observation of patients at a distance no greater than arm’s length.
* Participates in patient rounding as directed by the Registered Nurse.
* Ensures environmental safety for patients.
* Answers call lights and directs patient care issues to the Registered Nurse.
* Restocks department supplies and precautions stations.
* Transports patients within the department and to in-hospital locations as needed.
* Clean patient equipment following designated procedures.
* Completes patient safety sitter competency and documentation.
* Communicates any changes in patient behavior to the Registered Nurse.
* Participates in quality improvement activities specific to the unit.
* Considers cultural beliefs and practices when caring for patients; uses interpreter services for limited English proficiency.
* Performs all duties in accordance with safety laws, regulations, and hospital policies.
Education/Experience Required:
* High School diploma/GED or enrolled in a High School Health Sciences program.
Registration/Certification:
* Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3 months of hire.
* Completes hospital-approved de-escalation training during orientation.
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
This role involves frequent physical activity including bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking, and lifting over 10 lbs. Occasional climbing stairs, lifting over 50-100 lbs, and sitting are required. Constant use of senses and communication devices, with frequent concentration and problem-solving.
All staff must be vaccinated against influenza and COVID-19 as a condition of employment, in accordance with hospital policy.
