About the Role
Technical Sales Manager (Food Ingredients)
Location: Home-based, UK
Salary: £52,000 - £64,000 pa + Bonus
An ingredients manufacturing business is seeking to appoint a Technical Sales / Business Development Manager. This is a new role created due to the ongoing success of the business in attracting and retaining a quality portfolio of customers.
The Technical Sales / Business Development Manager will work from home and cover a customer base across the UK. This role is suitable for both experienced consultative sales professionals and those with extensive technical experience (NPD/Technical) in food manufacturing, interested in transitioning to a sales role and applying their knowledge in a commercial setting.
Responsibilities
* Engage in consultative sales of ingredients to food manufacturing customers within sectors such as Chilled Foods, Meats, Seafood.
* Provide technical advice and solutions, acting as a technical consultant rather than merely selling commodities.
* Collaborate with NPD teams on customer sites, leveraging knowledge about product applications and technical capabilities.
* Manage 80% existing accounts and develop 20% new business.
* Build and nurture customer relationships, becoming a trusted source of technical and commercial solutions.
* Create and maintain an up-to-date CRM and project pipeline.
* Spend approximately 50% of time visiting customers and 50% working from home.
Activities
* Achieve annual sales targets.
* Identify prospects, set appointments, and plan territory coverage within mainland UK and occasionally Ireland.
* Arrange trials and act as an extension of customers’ NPD teams.
* Create professional, technically accurate proposals.
* Partner with customers to leverage mutual success.
Candidate Profile
* Deep understanding of food manufacturing processes, including Chilled Foods, Seafood, Meats, Poultry.
* Tenacious, energetic, positive attitude with a proven sales achievement record.
* Experience selling ingredients to food manufacturing sectors is advantageous.
* Technical background in Food Production/Development, with interest in transitioning into sales.
* Credible in technical conversations with food industry professionals.
* Apply a consultative, solutions-based sales approach.
* Location: Anywhere in the UK within reasonable distance.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary: £52,000 - £64,000 pa + Bonus (OTE £57k - £72k pa)
