INFORMATION ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Clinical Infection Research has rapidly expanded at Leeds Teaching Hospitals in recent years including local research as well as both commercial and non-commercial NIHR Portfolio studies. We are now seeking a clinical research fellow to assist with additional studies, in particular clinical trials. The post-holder will work closely alongside the existing research and clinical teams in delivering high quality care to patients during their participation in both interventional and observational studies, in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Current study topics include a variety of studies including HIV, influenza, sepsis and brain infections. This full time post will be based in Infection & Travel Medicine at St Jamess University Hospital, Leeds, although they will liaise closely with other departments in particular Microbiology. The post will also include recruitment of patients with infection in other departments in Leeds Teaching Hospitals.
The Adult Infectious Diseases Unit (known as Infection & Travel Medicine) in Leeds is based on ward J20 within Gledhow Wing at St Jamess University Hospital and provides inpatient and outpatient services for the people of Leeds and surrounding areas. The Department provides a 7 day a week Infectious diseases service to the West Yorkshire Region. There are approximately 700 admissions per annum which are nearly all non-elective. Patients are usually admitted from the Trusts A& E departments, Medical Assessment Unit, and directly from GPs, but may be referred from other wards within the Trust and other hospitals within the region.
There are approximately 3000 attendances per year in total. We provide Infectious Diseases clinics with approximately 200 new referrals per year, as well as a weekly TB clinic jointly with Leeds Chest Clinic. We have a cohort of approximately 2000 HIV patients cared for by an integrated HIV outpatient service with Genitourinary Medicine.
