The Role
We’re looking for 2 creative, strategic and collaborative communications professionals to lead the Faculty’s communications functions within our Student Recruitment, Marketing and Communications Teams.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape how we tell the story of our teaching, research and engagement, raising the Faculty’s profile and strengthening how we communicate with colleagues, students and external audiences.
These roles oversee multichannel campaigns, content creation, brand alignment and performance reporting, acting as the Faculty’s expert adviser on all aspects of communications. You’ll build strong relationships with central university teams, coordinate a Faculty-wide communications network, support major events and provide day-to-day leadership for communications staff.
We’re looking for individuals who brings strong leadership, excellent stakeholder engagement skills, and the confidence to influence at all levels. You’ll be comfortable managing competing priorities, thinking strategically, and finding creative solutions. Experience across digital, print and face-to-face communications is essential, along with a commitment to inclusive and accessible practice.

1. Communications Manager, Faculty of Medical Sciences – Full Time. The Faculty of Medical Sciences is a major centre for research‑led education, bringing together clinicians, scientists, and health professionals to advance medical knowledge and improve patient care. We offer a wide range of medical, dental, biomedical, and health science programmes, all taught within a world‑leading research environment and supported by strong partnerships with regional NHS trusts. With thousands of students and a large community of academic and professional staff, the faculty combines cutting‑edge research, innovative teaching, and global engagement, including its international campus in Malaysia, to drive excellence in healthcare education and scientific discovery.
2. Communications Manager, Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering – 0.9FTE. The Faculty of Science, Agriculture & Engineering (SAgE) is one of the UK’s largest and most established science and engineering faculties, offering a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes across its Schools of Computing, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics & Physics, and Natural & Environmental Sciences, as well as a campus in Singapore. We have over 8,500 students, 1,200 staff and an annual turnover of £183 million. With specific research. teaching and innovation strengths in Electrification, Data and Digital Technologies, the Environment and Sustainability, the Faculty has a world-class reputation, steeped in history dating back to 1871. Today, we’re home to the National Innovation Centre for Data and the National Innovation Centre for Rural Enterprise as well as eight Centre for Research Excellence.

Key Accountabilities
3. Provide visionary leadership for the Faculty’s external communications strategy, working collaboratively with academic and professional colleagues to elevate the profile of our teaching, research and engagement activities
4. Lead the development and delivery of an effective internal communications strategy that ensures colleagues across the Faculty are informed, connected and engaged with our strategic priorities.
5. Oversee the planning, creation and execution of multi‑channel communications campaigns that showcase Faculty achievements, facilities and initiatives.
6. Produce high‑quality content including copywriting, social media scheduling, website updates, blogs, newsletters and printed materials.
7. Ensure all communications are aligned with university brand guidelines and reflect best practice in tone, accessibility and audience engagement.
8. Serve as the Faculty’s primary point of contact for communications advice, offering expert guidance to colleagues at all levels.
9. Act as the operational liaison with Corporate Communications, Marketing and Alumni Relations, strengthening cross‑Faculty coordination and ensuring consistent messaging.
10. Lead and support the Faculty’s communications network, fostering collaboration and knowledge‑sharing across teams.
11. Benchmark, monitor and analyse communications performance, producing regular reports for Leadership Teams and Faculty Executive Board on press coverage, social media engagement, website analytics and campaign impact. Use data‑driven insights to inform continuous improvement and strategic decision‑making.
12. Produce or liaise with relevant colleagues/partners to arrange creative design, photography and video content to support Faculty communications of academic, research and engagement activity.
13. Provide oversight for key Faculty‑level events, including high‑profile conferences, workshops and celebratory activities, ensuring they are effectively promoted and aligned with strategic objectives.
14. Manage a small team of Communications specialists.

15. A broad experience of managing multi-channel communications including face to face, digital and print etc.
16. Experience of website development and maintenance.
17. Experience of SharePoint/Intranet development and maintenance.
18. Experience of working to conflicting priorities and meeting appropriate deadlines.
19. Excellent interpersonal, influencing and relationship building skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
20. Evidence of a proactive and creative approach to problem-solving.
21. Knowledge of equality, diversity and inclusion principles and the ability to create inclusive and accessible content
22. Experience of leading, developing and managing a team

Qualifications
28. Qualified to degree level or equivalent plus relevant experience demonstrating development through a series of relevant roles or substantial vocational experience in a similar setting.
Desirable
29. CIM, CIPR or marketing qualification.
