We’re currently recruiting for a Principal Planning Engineer to join a dynamic and growing team supporting key infrastructure projects across the UK. This is a commercially focused role, ideal for someone confident leading their own project planning activities while effectively contributing to a wider team. This position will support pre- and post-contract stages, helping deliver successful outcomes across the full project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead planning activities across multiple projects, working closely with the Project Controls Manager.
* Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams and client representatives.
* Provide accurate scheduling, analysis, and forecasting aligned with contract requirements.
* Monitor and manage project risk, change, and schedule variations, proposing mitigations where necessary.
* Collaborate with project and contractor teams to ensure realistic and achievable schedules.
* Support the recruitment and development of the planning function as projects scale.
* Ensure appropriate handovers are arranged during periods of absence.
* Strong understanding of the interaction between time, cost, and commercial factors throughout the project lifecycle.
* Proven experience in managing schedules through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover phases.
* Skilled in the development and implementation of planning procedures and reporting.
* Ability to analyse and interpret Earned Value metrics.
* Experience working in highly regulated industries such as Nuclear, Defence, or Oil & Gas.
* Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., ACostE, APM).
