Joining our Depot Management Team, you will work with the Operations Manager supporting the Depot. This is a key role ensuring the smooth running of the parcel shop operations within the Depot during the day shift.
Our Day Shift Van Manager is fully accountable for the performance of the parcel shop drivers, proactively seeking ways to improve cost, service, and operational efficiency. You will ensure all resources, including third parties, are managed, planned, and controlled to achieve the agreed service levels, and ensure correct processes are implemented, maintained, and led through continuous improvement.
The Day Shift Van Manager will be a role model of behaviors and lead our health and safety Go Home Safe message.
ABOUT THE ROLE
1. Managing all areas of the day parcel shop operations, sortation, and transportation efficiently and cost-effectively.
2. People Management – recruitment, induction, ongoing engagement of warehouse drivers, performance and attendance management, daily debriefs with drivers, and weekly reports.
3. Compliance – legalities, management of domestic driving hours (breaks, shift lengths, rest periods), and driver compliance support in depots.
4. Resourcing – planning local routes to ensure effective parcel delivery and optimal utilization of rosters.
5. Cost Management – managing budgets to meet service levels, including productivity, labor costs, overtime, and agency usage.
6. Plan & Budget – collaborating with planning teams, Central Van Manager, and DGM, including planning for peak periods.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
* Transport knowledge, skills, or experience, including regulations.
* Strong operational knowledge of end-to-end processes.
* Ability to work independently in a pressurized environment with tight deadlines.
* CPC National Certificate (desirable).
* Full driving license required.
* IOSH qualification.
* Advanced skills in Management Information and Excel spreadsheets, with proficiency in PowerPoint and Word.
* Ability to interpret cost controls, data reports, MI, and KPI metrics.
* Experience in managing and leading a team.
