About the role Salary: £35,000 Location: Flexible location due to regular travel requirements across our network however you will need to be commutable to one of our Gist sites as a base location Shift Pattern: Monday – Friday – 37.5 hours a week As our Environment Officer, you’ll be at the forefront of championing sustainability—this is a progressive role where you will help shape how we align with ISO 14001 principles and stay ahead of environmental legislation. No two days are the same as you take ownership of dynamic environmental registers, lead engaging audits and checks, and track the journey of our waste to ensure its managed responsibly. You’ll be the driving force behind innovative improvements that shrink our environmental footprint. What you’ll do Update and manage the Environment Legal Register and Aspects & Impacts Register, ensuring alignment with ISO 14001 principles and current legislation Conduct bi-annual environmental audits and site checks to monitor compliance and identify improvement opportunities, you will prepare audit reports and support corrective actions Perform duty of care audits on relevant contractors to verify compliance with waste and environmental obligations Provide training and guidance on waste segregation and disposal to sites to ensure compliance with waste management regulations Monitor environmental incidents and where needed support root cause analysis and corrective actions Support initiatives to enhance environmental performance and develop improvement plans Stay informed on environmental legislation and industry best practices. Supporting initiatives and improvement plans to enhance environmental performance You will be embedded within the operation and at peak times in the year there will be an expectation to help at site where needed. What you’ll need Experience working with ISO 14001 principles (internal auditor qualification desirable) Knowledge of environmental legislation and compliance requirements Ability to conduct audits and prepare reports Strong organisational and communication skills Understanding of waste management practices Developing mindset as you will continue to learn and keep up to date with environment legislation What’s in it for you Gist is an inclusive, dynamic, exciting, and evolving business built on our core values.
