An opportunity has become available for a Communications Engineer based in Lincoln reporting to the Telecoms Operations Team Manager (East and West Midlands). The Communications Engineer will be responsible for the installation, commissioning and maintenance of our Telecoms Networks in East Midlands, working with our Network Management Centre (NMC), Design and Commercial teams to deliver a reliable, resilient and secure solution in a fast and evolving space, you will be hands‑on, responsible for managing your own time to achieve targets set by the business and our customers, working on the Telecoms & SCADA networks that primarily support the Control and Visibility of the high‑voltage electricity network.
Responsibilities
* Carry out the installation, operation and maintenance of SCADA & Telecoms networks within the designated region.
* Work with contractors and, when necessary, witness acceptance tests.
* Manage your own working time to ensure that objectives and projects are completed in the most efficient manner.
* Work with colleagues and customers to ensure continuity of service.
* Work safely and in accordance with approved procedures and techniques.
* Provide technical support to customers and, where necessary, liaise with colleagues to solve complex issues.
Qualifications
You would ideally have experience as a Telecoms Engineer, with an understanding of Network Elements. If you have not worked with us before, you should have appreciation of the electrical Network we support, perhaps experience in Safety‑Critical environments. Strong communication skills are key, so you can coordinate jobs and clearly explain issues. You will be in control of your diary, so you need to be resilient, organised and able to prioritise your workload. Team players thrive in this role, and you should have experience using iPads, computers and our additional software. You should have experience with DWDM, IP, MPLS, SDH, PDH and Microwave equipment, and be committed to providing outstanding customer service, with the ability to communicate well with colleagues and customers. Ideally qualified to BTEC or equivalent in Telecommunications or Electrical Engineering, or have extensive relevant experience. You should have a technical background and be motivated to succeed.
You will be required to undertake standby duties in accordance with an agreed rota.
