Our client is seeking an Associate or Senior Associate with a minimum of five years’ PQE in corporate and personal insolvency to join its Business Support and Insolvency team, which operates across multiple offices. The role is based in the Southampton office and involves working closely with the Partner leading the team. While the successful candidate will supervise colleagues locally, they will also collaborate with team members across other offices as part of the wider practice group. The role requires experience across the full spectrum of insolvency work, including both corporate and personal matters, spanning advisory, transactional and contentious instructions. The team acts for insolvency practitioners, financial institutions, lenders, investors, directors, companies and private individuals. The successful candidate will assume meaningful responsibility from the outset and engage directly with clients on a broad range of matters. A strong working knowledge of the Insolvency Act 1986, the Insolvency Rules 2016 and the Companies Act 2006 is essential. Applicants should have substantial experience in areas such as administrations, security reviews, business and asset sales, winding-up petitions, bankruptcy proceedings and estates, matrimonial home applications, transactions at an undervalue, preference claims and directors’ loan accounts. Familiarity with the appointment and involvement of LPA Receivers would be beneficial. The position calls for excellent interpersonal and communication skills, together with experience supervising and delegating to junior lawyers. An interest in networking and contributing to business development initiatives is also important. Established professional connections within the insolvency sector and a client following would be advantageous, though not essential. Candidates with a strong contentious insolvency background who are keen to broaden their expertise into a wider insolvency practice are also encouraged to apply. Hybrid working is supported, with a typical expectation of two to three days in the office, subject to operational requirements.
