In this hands‑on, technically focused role, you’ll take responsibility for servicing, fault‑finding, and repairing Hitachi Rail rolling stock—helping to keep our fleet safe, reliable and performing at its best. What You’ll Be Doing Maintenance & Engineering Maintain the condition of the work site, materials, and equipment Prepare for and undertake both planned and unplanned maintenance activities Confirm that traction and rolling stock assets meet operational specifications using engineering processes and techniques Read, interpret, and extract information from engineering drawings and technical specifications Remove and replace rolling stock components safely and efficiently Modify or manufacture components using hand‑tool material‑removal techniques Assemble and install new rolling stock components using approved engineering methods Fault-Finding & Technical Support Identify, assess, and rectify defects and discrepancies across rolling stock assets Recognise repeat faults and recommend or carry out appropriate repairs Create clear, technical scopes of work for others to complete Support reliability technicians with improvement initiatives across the fleet Provide technical support during in‑service failures when required Offer operational support to users of Hitachi rolling stock Safety, Quality & Record Keeping Adhere to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards at all times Keep SAP records accurate, clear, and up to date Maintain high standards of housekeeping and safe working practices Collaboration & Development Work closely with internal teams and external partners as required Continue to develop your skills in line with new business needs and technology Build and maintain positive working relationships across the depot Carry out additional responsibilities based on local operational requirements About you Preventative Maintenance and Fault-finding experience AC Depot isolation experience Moveable plant experience Driving Licence Working at Height experience Manual Handling experience Powered plant and tools – air / 110v experience Crimping competence & assessment experience Sound knowledge of, and compliance to, rules and regulations Good written and verbal communication skills Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel Qualifications HNC or Served apprenticeship with mechanical, electrical disciplines/Engineering based NVQ level 3 What we offer We value the importance of all of our employees, if you would like to join our fantastic organisation you could be entitled to: Competitive salary Potential opportunity for annual performance related bonus 25 days holiday Pension scheme with contributions up to 9% Private medical insurance Personal Accident insurance Group Income protection Group Life Insurance Employee Assistance Programme We also offer additional perks for you to choose from within a flexible plan that will meet your specific needs and lifestyle.
