Overview
Associate Medical Director Specialised Services Commissioning for Women and Children (JCC) – National level role within the NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee (NWJCC). The NWJCC is a joint committee of the seven health boards in Wales, with a Chair and Lay Members, supporting collaborative commissioning across Wales. We commission around 220 services with a £1.14bn budget. The NWJCC is a newly formed organisation established on 1 April 2024.
Position
Position: Associate Medical Director Specialised Services Commissioning for Women and Children (JCC).
Responsibilities
* Provide medical support to the commissioning of specialised services for women and children for the population of Wales.
* Offer expert clinical advice and leadership to support the Women and Children’s Commissioning Team.
* Inform an evidence-based approach within ethical frameworks to provide and develop high quality, equitable services for Women and Children.
* Contribute to national level governance, performance, and strategic engagement with NHS Wales, Welsh Government, and provider organisations.
* Demonstrate commitment to the NWJCC values of respect, trust, collaboration and excellence, placing patients and quality at the centre of decision making.
Qualifications and Training
Essential
* Qualified Medical professional with GMC registration (unblemished).
* Evidence of continued professional development and postgraduate medical qualifications.
* Management training and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
Desirable
* Additional postgraduate qualifications.
Experience
Essential
* Must be or have been a practising GP or worked at Medical Consultant level.
* Experience in Clinical Governance and Medical Management.
* Significant experience of organisational change, with a track record in performance management, implementing robust systems and processes, and facilitating groups.
* Undertaking sensitive negotiations and initiating strategic partnerships and alliances.
* Understanding of the health and social care management environment in Wales and familiarity with national targets and performance management methodologies.
* Ability to develop an organisational culture that promotes clinical engagement and adoption of new clinical and service technologies.
Desirable
* Experience in developing policy/strategy and in national/regional roles beyond the UHB.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential
* Analytical thinking to reach conclusions from diverse sources and to carry decisions forward.
* Excellent communication skills and up-to-date knowledge of national and local agendas, standards, targets, and priorities related to medical education and healthcare.
* Strong leadership capabilities.
Desirable
* Experience of leading teams in service change.
