PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The BBC Data Platform is the foundation that enables teams across the organisation to capture, process, govern, and utilise data. It powers our analytics, personalisation, and insights for products such as iPlayer, Sounds, and News.

We're in the middle of a major transformation to modernise how we ingest, process, and serve data in real time. Our ambition is to build an enterprise data platform that provides reliable, real-time data at scale and open up new opportunities for analytics, personalisation, and experimentation.

As Executive/Group Product Manager - Core Data Platform, you'll lead the PM team and be accountable for the strategy, roadmap, and outcomes for this platform. You'll set the direction for the platform's core capabilities, working closely with engineering and key stakeholders to ensure the platform is adopted, trusted, and measurably improving how the BBC uses data.

The BBC Data Platform is the foundation that enables teams across the organisation to capture, process, govern, and activate data - powering analytics, personalisation, and insight generation across BBC products and services.

This role is for a product leader who thrives in complex platform environments: someone who can balance long-term architecture and foundations with near-term value, translate organisational needs into clear product outcomes, and drive alignment across teams with a compelling product narrative.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

This is an opportunity to shape the BBC's future data platform, working on large-scale real-time systems with modern cloud technologies. You'll collaborate with talented engineering, data, and product teams on a high-profile transformation programme with real impact across the organisation.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

• Define and deliver the vision and roadmap for the BBC's Enterprise Data Platform.
• Work with engineering leads to ensure the platform is scalable, reliable, and cost-efficient as it evolves.
• Translate organisational needs into clear product outcomes for analytics, personalisation, experimentation,
and data transformation use cases.
• Drive adoption and usability of the platform across the BBC's internal teams.
• Ensure the platform meets requirements for data quality, governance, and security.
• Bring external insights and industry best practices into the BBC's data platform strategy.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

• Proven product management expertise, with a strong track record in both strategy and execution across multiple squads.
• Experience line-managing product managers or extensive coaching and development of product management craft.
• Demonstrated success in delivering complex technical products within data or platform environments.
• High level of autonomy and decision-making ability in ambiguous or fast-changing settings.
• Strong technical literacy in modern data platforms, event-driven architectures, and streaming data pipelines.
• Ability to define, measure, and communicate product impact using data, even in complex environments.
• Examples of communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to tailor messaging and write compelling product narratives.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

• Hands-on experience with Agile delivery practices and iterative product development.
• Familiarity with data governance and compliance in complex organisational settings.
• Proven ability to work within cross-functional leadership teams in an empowered product model.
• Comfortable with evidence-led decision making and rapid learning approaches.
• Knowledge of prioritisation frameworks (e.g. Impact vs Effort, Kano, ICE) to balance strategic and tactical delivery.
• Understanding of data platform modernisation and emerging technologies.
• Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms (e.g. GCP, Azure), including collaboration with AWS engineering teams.

If you can bring some of these skills and experiences, along with transferable strengths, we'd love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.

This role is listed under 'Executive Product Manager' on our internal careers path framework.

Before your start date, you may need to disclose any unspent convictions or police charges, in line with our Contracts of Employment policy. This allows us to discuss any support you may need and assess any risks. Failure to disclose may result in the withdrawal of your offer.
