We are a dedicated Legal Aid family law firm based in Leeds City Centre, seeking an experienced and highly organised Legal Secretary to support our busy Family Department. The role requires someone who is confident working in a fast‑paced environment, understands the sensitivity of family matters, and can provide exceptional administrative and client‑care support to our solicitors and caseworkers. Key Responsibilities Secretarial support — preparing, formatting, and amending legal documents including statements, court bundles, applications, and correspondence. Audio and copy typing — producing accurate work from dictation and handwritten notes. Case management — maintaining electronic and paper files, ensuring accurate record‑keeping in line with Legal Aid Agency (LAA) requirements. Court bundle preparation — compiling, paginating, and lodging bundles for hearings, often to tight deadlines. Client contact — handling incoming calls, taking detailed messages, arranging appointments, and providing clear, compassionate communication to vulnerable clients. Diary and scheduling — managing calendars for fee‑earners, booking conferences, hearings, and meetings. General administration — scanning, photocopying, filing, post handling, and supporting the smooth running of the department. Skills & Experience Required Previous experience as a Legal Secretary, ideally within family law or another Legal Aid‑focused department. Excellent audio typing and document‑production skills. High level of organisation, with the ability to prioritise competing deadlines. Confident communication skills, with a professional and empathetic manner. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using case management systems. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
