Senior Environmental Economics Consultant
Location: Edinburgh
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000
An established, international advisory and consultancy group is seeking a Senior Environmental Economist to support the growth of its natural capital and environmental economics offering in the UK.
This is an opportunity to join a highly respected global engineering consultancy, working at the intersection of environmental economics, natural capital, climate resilience and strategic advisory. The successful candidate will play a visible role in shaping service development while delivering high-quality work for public and private sector clients.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental assessment & valuation: Lead qualitative and quantitative economic valuation and accounting work, translating findings into clear, actionable recommendations for clients.
Advisory & strategy: Design climate- and nature-resilient strategies and roadmaps, including nature finance options, integrated with wider decarbonisation and resilience programmes.
Analytics & modelling: Build and quality-assure analytical models (primarily Excel-based), supporting baselines, scenario analysis and decision dashboards.
Client delivery: Manage projects end-to-end, including proposals, scoping, stakeholder engagement, workshops and high-quality written outputs.
Collaboration: Work closely with internal specialists across environment, energy, water, transport and the built environment to deliver integrated solutions.
Capability building: Mentor and support junior staff, review outputs and contribute to internal training and knowledge development.Requirements
Strong applied experience in environmental economics and/or natural capital valuation.
Proven consulting background with confidence managing projects, clients and multiple workstreams.
Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, including economic or financial modelling.
Clear, confident communicator, comfortable presenting to senior decision-makers.
Relevant degree in economics, environmental sciences, sustainability or similar (postgraduate qualification desirable).
